Satellite Beach sits on a barrier island between the Atlantic and the Indian River, and everything we build here is specified for salt. Salt spray burns the wrong plants in a single season, corrodes standard fasteners, and pits unsealed metal within a couple of years.
Our coastal spec is different from our mainland spec: stainless and marine-grade hardware, powder-coated aluminum, salt-tolerant plant palettes, and sealed stone. It costs a little more up front and it is the reason our beachside installs still look right a decade later.

Salt spray and wind burn
Ocean-facing beds need salt-tolerant material — sea grape, coontie, saw palmetto, silver buttonwood, muhly grass — or you'll be replanting annually.
Corrosion on fasteners and frames
We use stainless, marine-grade, and powder-coated components on every enclosure, fence, and deck on the island.
High water table
Deep footings and standard base depths need adjusting. We plan hardscape base and drainage around island soil, not mainland assumptions.

Questions we get here
Sea grape, saw palmetto, coontie, silver buttonwood, muhly grass, sabal palm, and beach sunflower are our workhorses. We place less tolerant species behind a windbreak or on the leeward side of the house.
